Looney Toons

What's up, Doc?

Name: Looney Toons
Theme: Bugs Bunny & Friends
Materials: Aspire X-Dreamer II Green
Build Time: 6 hours

Of course, not all case mods have to be as detailed as the Evil Monster, nor do they need to take 200+ hours. I had a second Aspire X-Dreamer II case but instead of Kill Bill Yellow, this one is green. When I say 'green' I mean greeeeeeeen!! It took me some time to come up with a design theme, but I eventually decided on Looney Tunes - it sort of fits with the colour of the case, because it's a looney colour.

Like the Coyote, these 'blank' cases just keep coming back for more. More modding that is! For this case, I will only be engraving some characters - no paint, no aluminium. The aim is maximum impact for minimum time.

Aside from Mickey Mouse, and ignoring modern rubbish like Pokemon, Bugs Bunny would have to be one of the most recognised cartoon characters in the world. I found this classic Bugs pose which would fit perfectly for the bottom right of the featured window side panel. Once again, the technique is Print, Outline and Fill.

Sylvester the cat was next - this time for the top left of the panel. Note how successful the final engraving is when the source art is effectively black & white (or indeed, grey & white for Bugs).

A small Sylvester Jr for the bottom left and the trademark Looney Tunes text for the top right, and the side panel is done.

I wanted something cool for the top of the case, near where the DVD drive goes. It is a bigger area than the window side panel, so I chose Taz to fill the space. If you weren't a fan of the 1990's Taz phenomenon, take heart in the fact that the character was first seen in a Looney Tunes cartoon in 1954, so at least in spirit, he is the same generation as the other characters.

Of course, the the right-hand side panel is an even larger area again, but I got lucky when I found this sketch of Bugs and Taz tearing up the streets on a pair of motorcycles. This engraving easily took the most time of all of them but as always, if you are careful, the end result will be worth it. You can click for a bigger version.

Here is the final case. It's not a big mod but still, it's sweet... and my kids love it!
